Causeway Work Centre
Causeway’s Wellness Warriors are running
the Hintonburg 5k!
Causeway is a not-for-profit agency that empowers and supports people in overcoming disabilities and other challenges to help them find rewarding work and live more independently. We are focused on helping people overcome complex employment barriers such as mental health issues, homelessness, lack of education and poverty. For those individuals who are struggling to find work and who don’t know where to start, Causeway can be the first step.
Who are the Wellness Warriors?
The Wellness Warriors are Causeway clients who are dedicated to improving their well-being through a commitment to the Causeway Wellness Program. The Wellness Program was developed in 2007 and was designed to assist individuals who were having difficulty securing or maintaining jobs due to physical health limitations. The goal of the program was to provide clients with the tools and support to improve their physical and mental well-being through daily routine and exercise, and eventually reintegrate them back into the workforce.
The Wellness Program is a free service offered to all clients of Causeway Work Centre and has become Causeway’s most requested program. The program is run by a certified personal trainer, who works one‐on‐one with participants and teaches the importance of exercise and nutrition. Clients have the opportunity to use the on-site gym, participate in circuit training, spinning and/or yoga classes and the community kitchen as part of their personalized program. Most individuals in the program are experiencing barriers to employment and are currently unemployed or underemployed.
The Wellness Warriors have been training hard and are excited to take part in the Hintonburg 5k to demonstrate the culmination of their efforts.
